Diastasis recti (also known as abdominal separation) is commonly defined as a gap of roughly 2.7 cm or greater between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscle. When present in a patient undergoing abdominoplasty, it is often corrected by plicating the linea alba. When the Diastasis is too large, a mesh will provide better support and less chance of recurrence.

Watch a rectus diastasis repair using retrorectus polypropylene mesh simultaneous to a horizontal abdominoplasty.
